ISL: Another thrilling encounter awaits us; Jamshedpur vs Goa

Soccer ball

The Match 85 of the India Super League presents us with another interesting game to watch out for as the table topper visits an all-season struggle for a league encounter.

This game suddenly comes with so much anticipation, not because of their present disparaging form but the history between both sides as it looks like the underdogs going into this fixture has the history book on their side and that can be positive enough to garner some courage, they seem like a bogey team more than an underdog.

A quick pip on the league log shows that Goa sits at the top of the table but not with all eyes closed as they are desperately being chased by ATK FC who is just behind them by 3 points yet with a game in hand, should they win it they will level on points with Goa.

And for Jamshedpur, they are precariously fixated to the 8th position on the log with a wretched 18 points from 17 league games making it an average 1 point per game which of course, is not good enough.

Based on the aforementioned, the game that will take place at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur is looking one-sided and the odds also suggest so.

The last time both sides met in November of 2019 saw Jamshedpur took the day out the blues as they inflicted the only home defeat suffered by Goa on them this season, and that was perhaps Jamshedpur only away victory all season so it was a rude shocker to India football. This is the more reason why every football game is like a biscuit, you will never know where it will crack from.

So, would Goa be looking to take their own revenge, and even make it a double deal as the winner will also ensure they consolidate on their position as the league leaders? Time will tell!

Let’s have a quick check on their recent run of games; the homers, Jamshedpur have been very very porous as they are wingless in the last 5 league games, in fact since the turn of the year, they have only managed one victory in seven games. This means they have lost 4 matches, drawn only 2 while they have won a single game which was against Kerala Blasters in a 3-2 home win.

An extended stretch of their form to 15 matches show that they have only mustered 2 wins both home and away, drawn 6 and lost 7 matches. That is a form capable of making a club stagnate all season.

However, their home run shows a bit of a contrasting performance even though it is not exactly solid enough but 3 defeats in 15 home games prove that they somehow find form at home even if they have to dig so deep to get that done.

They have only endured by home 5 draws with 7 wins in the process.

On the other hand, Goa will be basking in the euphoria of their recent and continuous run of form and will be looking to go 5-Star with this game to cap their 4-match winning streaks and remain on top of the league at least for the next couple of weeks again.

Just 2 defeats, with an outright 5 wins in 7 games in 2020 suggest that they remain very formidable anywhere, either at home or away.

This extensively means that they have won 10 games from their last 15 matches in all competitions with only 2 draws and 3 losses.

Although, their away form so far this year looks very much unreliable as they struggled real-hard the last time to beat Odisha 2-4 away from home marking their first victory after 2 previous away defeats.

But note that those 2 losses were just the only stain in their previous 10 away matches which indicates it was just a dip that they might have shaken off by now.

Their other dispositions show 6 solid wins and 3 draws, so holistically, they look strong away until recently.

And as goals are usually the real deal in every football game both sides have shown that they can either score loads of goals and can ship in goals recklessly as well.

Goa striker, Ferran Coromina is one of the leading strikers in the league as he has poached 13 goals in 14 appearances and has also added 4 assists to his name making him a major plus his team.

Jamshedpur also has Sergio Castel Martínez to bank upon for goals, although, he is not as lethal as other top strikers in the league, his 7 goals in 11 appearances are somewhat decent and could carry some hidden threats.

Jamshedpur has conceded 12 goals in the last 5 games with a misery 6 goals scored with no clean sheet kept in those 5 matches, as 4 of those also ended with both teams scoring.

Similar records were kept by Goa but just a bit contrasting in the number of goals scored. Goa has scored 16 goals in their previous 5 matches conceded 9 goals with no single clean sheet kept, just like Jamshedpur, 4 of those games ended with both teams to score.

Their head-to-head has been evenly shared with Jamshedpur taking 2 wins, the same amount of wins taken by Goa as they shared the spoils only one time.

Three of those previous 5 meetings ended with 3-5 goals being scored in totality, with under 2.5 goals recorded just twice. They have also done both teams to score on 3 occasions in those 5 meetings.

So, in this game, goals should come in aplenty from both ends as Goa might just be taking the day based on the form and importance of the game to their season’s ambition.
