The History of Baccarat

Baccarat

The Beginning

The biggest question in the history of baccarat is: where is the root of the game-in France or in Italy? The Italian gambler Felix Falguerein is believed to be the founder of the game, but baccarat became extremely popular only when it came to France at the end of the 15th century with the soldiers of Charles VIII; it was France where two key variants of baccarat-Chemin de Fer and Baccarat en Banque-were later born and spread all over the world.

First, it was played with tarot cards while Baccarat was in Italy, but later the 52-card deck came to alter them. Baccarat was only known to be the game of noble and wealthy gentlemen, and it was assumed that the middle class had little chance and right to play, but in fact it was not true because in some illegal clubs people played baccarat anyway.

The name of the baccarat game is derived from the Italian word “baccara,” which in this game means “nothing” and a loss.

Moving To The US

Baccarat started its journey to America at the end of the 19th century, thanks to English and French people who lived there, but because of another casino card game, blackjack, it was not very common there at that time. It was a time when blackjack was really popular in America and it was played everywhere, so poor baccarat had little chance of winning this popularity battle.

Tommy Renzoni, a casino player and writer, brought baccarat to Las Vegas where his rebirth began! Anyway, baccarat came to Cuba, got the name Punto Banco and stayed there until the 1950’s. The rules and name of the game (Punto Banco) were agreed to remain the same and the third famous variant of baccarat was born: North-American baccarat.

Americans liked the game so much and were so excited to play it that some new baccarat variants began to be created; one more common version of baccarat, Mini baccarat, was soon born in such a way. Anyway, although Europeans were not in a rush to embrace a new baccarat game and continued to play Chemin de Fer and Baccarat en Banque at casinos, two original baccarat games were not forgotten. That is why almost all casinos today have all three baccarat varieties to choose from for their guests.

Baccarat Today

The history of the baccarat game is not yet over: the game continues to grow and give all of its fans pleasure. The new chapter of baccarat life had begun with the age of the Internet-today more and more gamblers choose to play this game online for both fun and real money; hence, all online casinos are happy to represent various varieties of baccarat to select and play without going anywhere. Simple scan, nice bonuses and easy access make playing online baccarat one of the most successful and beloved casino games.

Strategy

This game is pure guessing. What hand is winning? The banker hand will win marginally more frequently, giving the house its 1.36 percent lead on player bets-50.68 percent of all decisions, not counting ties. But the house receives a 5 percent commission on winning bets from the banker, contributing to the banker’s 1.17 percent house advantage.

Mathematicians have long believed that, like blackjack, baccarat may be vulnerable to a method of card-counting. But on an average of about one hand per eight-deck shoe, the best method yet established tends to yield a marginal advantage to the bettor. To have the advantage, the client would have to count down hand after hand after hand, without playing, until this tiny advantage came to pass. That’s an edge not worth pursuing. In time , the customer would lose more than he would earn at the edge, and without making a bet, the casino would be unable to keep a seat for anyone spending hours.

Baccarat, for the bettor, is a game of luck plus money management. Do not make bets too high for your available bankroll, and when losing, do not raise bets. A good way to get broke quickly is to make bigger bets when chasing losses. If you are going to vary the size of your bet, raise it when you win and carry it down when you lose. Set and stick to limits on your losses.

If you’re sitting at a $100 mini-baccarat table, tell yourself you’re not leaving with less than $50. And, if you hit the $50 mark with a cold streak, walk away. Developing the discipline to leave a table when you still have cash is an important part of casino survival.

Learn how to walk away with profits, too. Try one of these two strategies if you’ve got a successful run and build your $100 up to $150. Just place in your pocket the original $100 and only play with the $50 in winnings while holding the $50 loss limit, or change your thinking and convince yourself that with less than $125, you will not walk away from the table. Then stick to it.

The longer you play a negative expectation game, even one as narrow as 1.17 percent, the more likely the casino is to grind your bankroll down. With at least part of the bankroll intact, walk away from the table – not just at baccarat, but at any casino game – and you’ll be shocked at how much more frequently a winner ends up for the day.

The most popular game in a casino is not usually baccarat, but it can be as exciting as blackjack or craps. Although it will seem strange at first to plan the game, the tips in this article should have you placing bets in no time.
